Man loses pets to house fire that officials are calling a total loss

Fire personnel said they aren't sure exactly how many animals were in the home during the fire but there were reportedly at least two or three dogs and four cats.

SAN ANTONIO — Several animals are presumed to be dead after a house fire on the northwest side.

Around 3:30 p.m., the San Antonio Fire Department responded to the 7600 block of Susan Elaine Street after receiving several reports of a structure fire.

Fire personnel were told pets were inside the home but the single occupant made it out safely.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time but SAFD said it seems to have started in the back of the residence and made its way up to the attic which caused a challenge for fire fighters as they said there was a heavy content build up in that area of the home.

The home is considered to be a total loss as the roof was completely burned off during the fire.

SAFD said no other homes were affected by the fire.

This is an ongoing investigation and KENS 5 will update this story as more information becomes available.
