Will San Antonio see rain during Battle of Flowers and Fiesta Flambeau parades?

The biggest chance for severe weather won't arrive until late Saturday night heading into Sunday morning.

SAN ANTONIO — Fiesta fans in San Antonio are busy packing their colorful attire, lawn chairs, and medal sashes as the marquee Battle of Flowers and Fiesta Flambeau parades approach.

But with overcast skies lingering all week, should parade-goers also bring an umbrella?

While the sun will likely be absent for the Friday morning and Saturday evening parades, the good news is you're not likely to find yourself caught in a downpour or shower. Battle of Flowers kicks off at 10:30 a.m. Friday, and if there's any precipitation, it's expected to be limited to light drizzle over the course of the parade.

Expect it to feel humid and muggy regardless, with an afternoon high of 85 degrees in the Alamo City.

Pockets of potentially stronger rain will stay to the southeast, while Friday evening brings a small chance of isolated storms in the San Antonio area. You'll want to be prepared if you're heading out for the final night of NIOSA.

Saturday will bring mostly cloudy conditions as the chance for storms ramp up overnight, though Fiesta Flambeau – which starts at 7:45 p.m. – should be mostly wrapped up by the time the rain arrives, though it may be gusty earlier in the evening as the parade is happening. The afternoon high will be 85 once again.

A line of storms will push through late Saturday and early Sunday morning, bringing the potential for large hail, damaging wind gusts and an isolated tornado or two to South Texas.

San Antonio is in a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather Saturday night, while communities to the west and northwest face a Level 2 risk.

Looking ahead to the last day of Fiesta, a line of storms could develop around 6 a.m. Sunday, based on one weather model. But they will quickly push out by mid-morning. By noon, conditions should be rain-free in San Antonio.
