Toddler recovering after getting punched during fight at volleyball game, police say

Police say it started as a disagreement between two women on the sidelines about court rules.

SAN ANTONIO — A toddler is recovering after police say they were punched during a fight between two women on the sidelines at a local volleyball game.

San Antonio Police responded to a sports facility on Northeast Loop 410 on Sunday for reports of a disturbance.

Police say the victim’s 3-year-old child was caught in the middle of the brawl when another woman allegedly punched the kid in the chest.

The 22-year-old suspect also apparently hurt the toddler’s mother, who told officers she was in pain and had a swollen earlobe.

Police say it started as a disagreement on the sidelines about court rules, and when the mother tried to move with her child to another bench, the suspect allegedly jumped on her back, pulled her hair and punched her chest.

At some point, the child was also hit and police were called to the scene. According to a police report, the suspect was charged with assault.

It did not say if anybody was treated for their injuries after the fight.

This is a developing story.
