SAPD shoots shotgun-wielding teen while responding to northwest-side disturbance, McManus says

Police said that as officers were going up the stairs at an apartment complex, the suspect reportedly came out and pointed a shotgun at them.

SAN ANTONIO — Police responded to reports of a shooting on the northwest side that involved an SAPD officer.

The officers involved initially responded to a disturbance call involving a knife on the 9100 block of Darthbrook. The caller was a woman who said a man was acting violently and throwing stuff around the apartment while threatening to kill her.

SAPD's Chief McManus said the officers approached the apartment with caution and as they were going up the stairs, the suspect reportedly came out and pointed a shotgun at them.

Both officers then opened fire, striking the suspect. Neither of the officers were shot or injured.

The suspect, was identified as 19-year-old male, Christopher Dahl, who was sent to the hospital in critical condition. Dahl was booked via proxy and charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant and terroristic threats to family/household, according to officials.

Both SAPD officers, Robert Collier and Jorge Lopez, will be placed on administrative leave. Collier has been with the force for four years while Lopez has been with SAPD for just two months.

McManus made it clear that he had not seen the body camera footage yet, adding information could change as the investigation continues.

This is the sixth shooting involving SAPD officers in 2024, and the first since Feb. 2.
