Man dead after two suspects shoot him as he was leaving work on northeast side

After shooting the victim, the two men drove off in a black sedan.

SAN ANTONIO — Two men shot and killed another man shortly after he left work on San Antonio's northeast side Thursday afternoon, leaving shell casings and switches created to convert handguns into fully automatic weapons nearby.

The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) shared surveillance video footage on social media of the incident in the 6900 block of Northeast Loop 410.

In that footage, the victim, 27-year-old Cesar Garcia, can be seen walking towards a stairwell with two men before one of them suddenly grabs him from behind while the other pulls out what appears to be a handgun.

A few moments later, Garcia's body falls onto the stairwell. According to police, there's no indication he was robbed.

SAPD said both assailants fired at Garcia before taking off in a black Hyundai Sonata, which was being driven by a third suspect. The car was missing a bumper.

Kiavon Funta Eugene Dotson, 21, was arrested early Saturday morning and accused of shooting and killing Garcia. SAPD continues to look for the second alleged gunman, whom police have identified as 20-year-old Ju Von William Philip. Crime Stoppers says it's offering a $5,000 rewards for information leading to Philips' arrest.
