Bexar County deputy accused of lying about incident with female inmate

Investigators say the arrest stems from an allegation in October of 2022 when Martinez may have used force when he was escorting an inmate to a living unit.

SAN ANTONIO — An off-duty Bexar County Sheriff's deputy is accused of falsely documenting an incident involving a use-of-force allegation.

Joshua D. Martinez was arrested Thursday on a charge of Tampering with a Governmental Record.

Investigators say the arrest stems from an allegation in October of 2022 when Martinez may have used force when he was escorting an inmate to a living unit and she refused to enter it.

Deputies say Martinez claimed the inmate threw herself on the floor, but investigators reviewed camera footage that showed Martinez throwing the inmate on the floor. He is accused of falsely documenting the events in his report.

Martinez was assigned to the Detention Bureau and had been with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office since March of 2020.

He is on unpaid leave as a result of the arrest and will remain on leave until the investigation is complete.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and BCSO Internal Affairs are conducting separate but concurrent investigations.
