SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio woman placed third in a gelato making competition Thursday, earning a spot to compete in an international gelato festival.

Dora Posada took home the bronze at the Gelato Festival World Masters: Texas Challenge and earned a spot as a North America Semifinalist.

Posada will continue on in the competition at the North America Semifinals of Gelato Festival World Masters which is scheduled for sometime later in 2024.

During the Texas challenge 12 gelato and ice cream chefs competed to create the world's best gelato. The judges focused on flavor, structure, creativity and presentation.

Posada represented Casa Morgana Gelatos - a local gelato shop that showcases genuine artisan Italian gelato with unique and natural flavors.

She impressed the judges with the flavor "Morgana's Goat Spell." The gelato is described as goat cheese gelato infused with orange zest topped with figs, toasted pecans and honey.

The Gelato Festival started in France in 2010 and was inspired by the creation of the first gelato recipe by Bernardo Buontalenti in 1559. The event has grown and expanded its borders to Europe, the United States and the world. The first World Championship of Gelato Festival World Masters took place in 2021.
