‘Fiesta House’: Family goes all out for San Antonio’s signature event

For the past five years, the Marquez family has decorated their home for Fiesta. But this year’s creation takes the cake.

SAN ANTONIO — Fiesta fun wraps up this weekend with the King William Fair, Fiesta Flambeau and A Day in Old Mexico. As thousands of people enjoy one of the biggest events the Alamo City has to offer, one family decided to bring the party home.

“We started it off at my grandma’s house at the time,” said Kristie Marquez. “We decorate for each holiday. Fiesta we did mostly inside, but this year we went all out.”

Putting up streamers and garlands is a family affair.

“My husband is the visionary,” said Kristie. “So, we all have to be outside and help him get everything set up.”

If you think the outside of the home is impressive, what’s inside is even better.

Every surface is blanketed in trinkets and confetti. At the dinner table, five skeletons wearing their fiesta formals represent each family member. There’s music, colorful lighting, even a smoke machine.

Kristie’s daughter, Natalie Marquez, celebrated her 20th birthday during the 11-day event.

“I love Fiesta,” said Natalie. “All the colors, the cascarones, I just love having Fiesta for my birthday.”
