Spurs 113, Timberwolves 112: What they said after the game

The Spurs captured their second-straight win over the Timberwolves.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs picked up their second straight win, beating the Timberwolves, 113-112, at home.

Victor Wembanyama recorded 23 points and 10 rebounds. Jeremy Sochan had 13 points and four rebounds. Keldon Johnson added 14 points off the bench. Devin Vassell recorded 25 points in the win. Tre Jones added 12 points and 11 assists.

The Spurs are 10-36 on the season and will next host the Washington Wizards on Monday night for the final regular-season matchup in the series.

Here's a sample of what the teams said after the game.

SPURS

Coach Gregg Popovich:

“I think that they just exhibited a lot of desire to win. A lot of little things. Obviously, Jeremy [Sochan] had that run there where he was spectacular. Devin [Vassell] was spectacular all night. But it’s a loose ball, it’s Keldon [Johnson’s] rebound there at the end giving us an extra possession, the trapping they did down the stretch. They were very physical and covered everybody especially [Karl-Anthony] Towns and [Anthony] Edwards. Those are the two guys, obviously, you worry about the most anyway, and they did a good job with them"

Johnson:

“We played for each other, we played together. As a team, we stepped up and made big plays down the stretch and we got stops. That was the main thing. That's big time right there. We all did it together”.

Wembanyama:

“I was told to leave my guy and prevent [Karl-Anthony Towns] from catching it in the post, which would have led to a mismatch. So, it did work out. It was a little bit of a scramble, but it worked out pretty well. I haven't seen it again, but the job they did on [Anthony Edwards] on the ball, I think it was phenomenal.”

WOLVES

Coach Chris Finch:

“I mean all credit to them. They played much better down the stretch. They made all the 50-50 plays, they made all the tough shots. We came up short. Too many turnovers in the fourth, got off to a really poor start in the fourth when we were up 10 and we needed a good one. But I thought it was a game we had a chance to push out the lead at times during the game, and we weren't able to do that. That's probably what costs us more than anything.”
