Mavs 144, Spurs 119: What they said after the game

Without Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs could not beat the Mavericks on the road.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs could not snap their losing streak falling to the Dallas Mavericks 144-119.

Victor Wembanyama did not play due to an ankle injury sustained during pregame warmups. Zach Collins had 14 points and five rebounds in the loss. Jeremy Sochan had 23 points and nine rebounds. His four 3-pointers versus Dallas is a career-high makes in a game in his career.

Keldon Johnson added 16 points and five rebounds. Devin Vassell recorded nine points in the loss.

The Spurs are 4-24 on the season, are on a four-game losing streak, and will next host the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night.

Here's a sample of what the teams said after the game.

SPURS

Gregg Popovich:

"And maybe he (Wembanyama) could have played, probably could have played, if it had been a playoff game, I probably would have played him. He’s not happy about it, but I would rather err on the conservative side since it is the same ankle. It is just a freak accident before the game.”

Sochan:

"We have a next-play mentality. It's unfortunate, but we feel like we believe in each other. We just have to play through it. It is what it is at the end of the day, and we have to keep going."

MAVS

Jason Kidd

"We shot the ball a lot better than we did last night. But a great character win, too, because we could have felt sorry for ourselves about our performance last night, but we turned the page. Much-needed win before we go to Phoenix for Christmas."

Tim Hardaway Jr.

“Guys are just battling, man. It’s tough and we’re not going to feel sorry for ourselves. We’ve still got to go out there and play. We’ve got so many injuries and so many guys out right now. [They are] key components to this team and help us win ball games."
