Uvalde City Council set to meet Tuesday

This coming a day after the city’s mayor resigned over unexpected medical issues.

UVALDE, Texas — The Uvalde City Council is set to meet Tuesday over a report on the tragedy at Robb Elementary School.

This coming a day after the city’s mayor resigned over unexpected medical issues.

Council members are expected to discuss the report by private investigator Jesse Prado. The city hired him after the tragedy in Uvalde to review the response by law enforcement. Specifically, city officers.

His presentation was met with backlash when he revealed city officers did not violate policy.

In some circustances, he even praised the officers’ actions during the May 24 shooting at the school. This upset several victims’ families and members of the council.

Now council members are set to decide whether they will accept the report or not.

In a letter, Smith says he's resigning due to unexpected medical issues he's experienced within recent weeks.

District One Councilman Everardo Zamora will serve as mayor-pro tem, until the next mayor is elected November 5.

Council members are set to meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
