Dozens of floats dazzled in Texas Cavaliers River Parade Monday

More than $8 Million has been raised to go towards the Alamo Texas Education Center.

SAN ANTONIO — More than 250,000 people gathered downtown Monday night for the 79th Texas Cavaliers River Parade.

The theme was Viva America: Great American Landmarks.

More than 60 floats demonstrating American landmarks made its way down the San Antonio River.

The celebrity Grand Marshal, rising country music star and Del Rio native, William Beckmann performed to kick the parade off.

This year's event raised more than $8 Million. The majority of those funds are going towards The Alamo's Texas Education Center.

“Every school age child that visits the Alamo from anywhere is going to walk into that building and it’s going to be the Texas Cavaliers Education Center," organizer Alcide Longoria said.

However, more than a million dollars is being set aside to go towards dozens other children's organizations.

“It's really the vehicle that allows us to raise money for children's charities in San Antonio," Longoria said. "Every year there are over 50 charities that receive money from the Texas Cavaliers.”

Many attendees said this was their favorite event at Fiesta.

“Just the atmosphere, just the excitement of the community coming together. It’s just so much fun," Lisa Kopacsi said.
