Gun found on San Antonio elementary school campus, officials say

SAISD's police department was alerted and found the gun was not loaded.

SAN ANTONIO — A student at a San Antonio elementary school was found to have brought an unloaded gun on campus, according to a letter sent by the school principal.

The incident took place Wednesday on the campus of Carvajal Elementary School.

According to Principal Hugo Saucedo's letter, the student "appeared to have a weapon and made comments considered to be threatening." Administrators eventually found the student as well as the firearm; it's unclear what kind of gun it was.

SAISD Police Department was alerted and confirmed the gun was unloaded.

The student is expected to face disciplinary action per the school's code of conduct, Saucedo said.

"We ask that you partner with us and reinforce with your child the message that these types of items should never be brought to school," he wrote to parents. "Our goal is to ensure safety and to retain a calm and productive learning environment for all students."
