Bexar Co. man wanted for violating court order taken into custody after west-side standoff

The standoff lasted a few hours early Wednesday afternoon.

SAN ANTONIO — A prolonged standoff between Bexar County authorities and a man with a lengthy criminal history ended with his arrest on the far west side.

Officials say 45-year-old Ruben Hernandez locked himself into a home in the area of Highway 90 and Loop 1604 when U.S. marshals arrived to arrest him, sparking the afternoon standoff. Personnel from the Bexar County Sherriff's Office (BCSO) SWAT team eventually arrived to assist.

Loud booms could be heard as police tried to take Hernandez into custody. He was eventually placed in handcuffs around 3:30 p.m.

According to online court records, Hernandez has been arrested multiple times in recent years for alleged assault only for most of those cases to be dismissed. He was wanted this week for allegedly violating a court order, which is a third-degree felony.
