Local school districts to offer free meals to students this summer

The districts participating in the summer program will offer meals at no cost to students beginning in June.

SAN ANTONIO — Eligible students at both San Antonio Independent School District and North East Independent School District will have the opportunity to receive meals at no cost as school is in recess for summer vacation.

The districts both announced their participation in the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Summer Meal Program. Through the program, children and teens ages 18 and younger, and enrolled students with disabilities up to 21-years-old can continue to eat healthy throughout the summer at no cost at any participating meal site.

SAISD will provide summer meals beginning June 3 until August 2 (depending on location). Serving times vary for each site. NEISD will offer free meals beginning June 10 until July 26.
