SAN ANTONIO — A man convicted for the aggravated sexual assault of a child has been sentenced.

According to a release from Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales, Ray Rodriguez-Ortiz received an 80 year prison sentence on Friday after he was found guilty of five of the six counts of abuse he was charged for.

The district attorney said Rodriguez-Ortiz began abusing the underage victim in February 2019 and it continued until February 2021 when the child told her mother about the abuse.

The child’s mother then reported the abuse to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, initiating an investigation.

“We are committed to fighting against child abuse and supporting victims to ensure justice prevails and our community remains safe,” said Joe Gonzales.

As part of his punishment, Rodriguez-Ortiz must register as a sex offender with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
