Man accidentally shot himself in head while allegedly playing with gun at party, police say

Witnesses told police that the man had been "playing with a firearm" when it accidentally discharged, striking him in his head.

SAN ANTONIO — Police say a man is in critical condition after he was shot in the head at a party on the northeast side Wednesday morning.

San Antonio Police responded to the 500 block of Lanark Dr., which is not far from Austin Highway, around 12:30 a.m. for reports of a shooting in progress.

According to the officers, there was a small party at the home, with at least five people attending, including the victim.

When officers arrived at the home, they found a man in his early 20s with a single gunshot wound to his head. Witnesses told police that the man had been "playing with a firearm" when it accidentally discharged, striking him in his head.

All of the partygoers were separated for questioning by police.

The victim was taken to BAMC in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.

The shooting remains under investigation.
