SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Cameron — Park Rangers on the beach in South Padre Island came across a massive amount of cocaine earlier this week, officials said.
Tuesday, Fort Brown Border Patrol agents were contacted by Cameron County Park Rangers who found a large black bag had washed up at Beach Access 3. The bag contained 25 bricks of cocaine wrapped in cellophane with the image of a toucan on them.
They seized a total of 70.3 pounds of drugs with a street value of over $2.2 million.
"I commend the relentless work performed by our partner agencies and our RGV Border Patrol agents working hard to keep our border and community safe,” said Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez.
