'Quit playing detective' | Soto family addressing hurtful social media comments

"That's not helping us. I've already removed myself from social media, because of you know everybody had negative comments," said Valerie Mendoza, Savanah's aunt.

SAN ANTONIO — The family of Savanah Soto says they are upset about social media comments about Savanah and Matthew. They are also asking the public to quit playing detective, and let police do their job, so they can get justice.

The family says move of the comments they are seeing on social media are hurtful, and they want it to stop. They also say people are sharing a lot of misinformation into the investigation.

"If it's not 100% then we ask that you don't share it. Like all you're doing is slowing down the process," said Savanah's aunt Valerie Mendoza.

The family of Savanah Soto says they are trying to grieve in peace, but say false statements on social media are upsetting.

"It's very upsetting not just to me, to my family, but to my son.  I just wish that people would just stop and let the police detectives do their job, do it the right way, so we can get justice for my granddaughter," said Rachel Soto, Savanah's grandmother.

Mendoza said those trying to play detective and making false accusations are not helpful.

"With all these false accusations, everybody trying to play detective and all that, that's not helping any, that's not helping us. Like I've already removed myself from a lot of social media, because you know everybody had negative comments and she wasn't innocent. They weren't, you know innocent, but they were young," said Mendoza.

The family says the negative comments are painful, as they try and mourn, and process the deaths. They say no one in this world is perfect, and appreciate all the prayers, love, and support they have received.

"Let us grieve by ourselves, without negative comments out there, because if it was anybody else's child we would respect their privacy," said Soto. "That's all we want. We just want everybody to respect our privacy, to let us mourn our way."

The family has also address fake community fundraisers, including fake GoFundMe accounts that have been created.  There are only 2 official GoFundMe accounts.  One for Savanah and Fabian, and one for Matthew. You can click on here and here for the correct GoFundMe accounts.
