Escaped inmate captured in Matagorda County

The convicted felon escaped Sunday from a prison in Brazoria County.

BRAZORIA, Texas — The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) has ended their search for a man who is serving a life sentence after he escaped from prison Sunday afternoon.

39-year-old Robert Yancy Jr., currently serving a life sentence for continuous sexual abuse of a child at the Clemens Unit in Brazoria, Texas, was captured by law enforcement in Matagorda County on Monday, officials say.

Police were able to locate the 2021 Nissan Versa in Victoria County and have arrested two people in connection with his escape.

Authorities said he had last been seen around 3:50 p.m. on Dec. 17., in a 2021 white Nissan Versa with a license plate number DNR9145. Yancy was reportedly seen wearing a black beanie and a black sweater.

"If you see Yancy, do not approach him and contact your local law enforcement. If you have information on his whereabouts, you can also leave a tip with the Office of Inspector General at 1-800-832-8477," TDCJ said in a press release.
