Man dead, another hospitalized after alleged stabbing in downtown San Antonio

Upon arrival, officers said they found a 70-year-old deceased man with a stab wound across the chest.

SAN ANTONIO — A man is dead and another was hospitalized after an alleged stabbing took place in downtown San Antonio.

Around 2 p.m., officers responded to the 900 block of South Main Avenue after receiving reports of an alleged fight. While in route, officers received reports that it was changed to a cutting in progress.  

Upon arrival, officers said they found 70-year-old Gary Wayne Battles, deceased with a stab wound across the chest. A suspect was found with a knife in his hand and was placed in police custody.

The suspect was sent to a local hospital with injuries of his own but SAPD said they don't know how he got those injuries.

The identity of the suspect has not been released at this time.
