Man arrested after he intentionally ran over wife with vehicle, SAPD says

During the preliminary investigation, officials were trying to determine if the woman had been hit by the vehicle or had jumped out.

SAN ANTONIO — A man has been arrested after police say he intentionally ran over his wife with a vehicle on the south side.

Around 3 a.m., police responded to the intersection of Fair Avenue and South Pine Street after receiving reports that a woman had been hit by a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found a woman on the ground next to a parked vehicle. During the preliminary investigation, officials were trying to determine if the woman had been hit by the vehicle or had jumped out.

The driver of the parked vehicle was later determined to be the spouse of the victim and identified as 37-year-old Jacob Villegas.

Police detained Villegas for questioning and was later under investigation for driving while intoxicated.

During the investigation, authorities said that Villegas was driving the vehicle and the victim riding as a passenger. Villegas then parked the vehicle and after the victim got out, SAPD says he intentionally "drover over the victim causing internal injuries and fractures."

The victim was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and Villegas was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon - serious bodily injury.

This is an ongoing investigation and KENS 5 will update this story as more information becomes available.
