SAN ANTONIO — A new arrest is opening over a year's worth of wounds for one family.

Authorities said Shafer was riding his bike when he was struck by a car and the driver did not stop to render aid.

Kenneth Relitz has been arrested in connection to Shafer's death, due to a DNA match.

“He walked," said Paula Shafer, Geoffrey's mother.  "He was walking around for 18 months knowing what he did to my son. That's an animal, somebody with no heart whatsoever.”

Shafer's parents have moved away from San Antonio due to the difficulty of their son's death. Geoffrey Shafer's body was found less than two miles from their home.

"He says 'I’ll be right back mom,'" Paula said. "'I love you.' And he never showed back up. He never came back.”

Relitz faces charges of collision involving death. For the Shafer family, the arrest has come 18 months too late.

"I want something done because there's too many people that is getting hit on bikes and the person takes off," Shafer said. "It's a light sentence for me."

Relitz's bond was set at $75,000. According to online court records, he made bond, and has since been released. He's due back in court on April 30.
