Bexar County Sheriff's Office searching for man who cut off ankle monitor

Officials say he is connected to several violent crimes, some against his own family.

SAN ANTONIO — An urgent search is on for a wanted man who cut off his ankle monitor.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says he is connected to several violent crimes, some against his own family members.

In a press conference Wednesday, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said Lopez ran from the 300 block of Duke Rd. where they said he was assaulting a woman he was supposed to stay away from.

Salazar said Lopez was stalking the victim on May 3 when he approached her in a parking lot late that night.

"Through coercion (he) made her follow him to a different location," the Sheriff added.

That's where Salazar said the two would end up on Duke Rd. and Lopez would start getting aggressive with the victim, at one point attempting to sexually assault her.

Salazar said the victim attempted to call 911 but the call was abruptly ended as she was asking for help.

"Dispatch was able to hear a good portion of her asking him to stop until it was terminated…that’s how dispatch got to that area," said Salazar.

Salazar adds that Lopez would take the ankle monitor off and leave it at the scene. The Sheriff does not know why the suspect had an ankle monitor but records show Lopez as being a repeat offender since 2013.

35-year-old Richard Lopez is wanted on a number of charges, in fact close to ten.

The charges include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault bodily injury to a family member, attempted sexual assault, and more.

They also believe the suspect might be using various alias’ but did not say what they could be.

If you have any information on where he might be, you're asked to call BCSO at (210) 335-6000.
