Meet the Spurs fans witnessing the dawn of the Wemby Era in person

There were plenty of Wemby jerseys in sight as the Silver & Black faithful lined up outside the arena Wednesday evening.

SAN ANTONIO — How excited are the Silver & Black faithful for a new era of Spurs basketball the likes of which the organization has never seen before?

In a word: very.

Ahead of Wednesday night's game against the Dallas Mavericks, Spurs fans decked out in their favorite team's gear – a fair number of them sporting No. 1 jerseys for prized rookie Victor Wembanyama – lined up outside Frost Bank Center in anticipation.

One fan that KENS 5's Vinnie Vinzetta spoke to arrived at the arena several hours ahead of tipoff, saying he's had the date circled on his calendar ever since the season schedule was released.

"All my homework's done yesterday. It's a great day," this superfan said. "Opening night against a division rival? I wouldn't miss it."

It's been a few years – maybe a few decades – since Spurs fans had this much reason to be excited to see their team return to the court. Wembanyama, the 7-foot-3 French 19-year-old, represents a never-before-seen caliber of player with astronomical potential that was on display throughout the preseason

He, alongside returning players like Jeremy Sochan, Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson, along with Hall of Fame coach Gregg Popovich, are who thousands of fans lined up outside the arena on a warm Wednesday evening were waiting to see.
