Taste of New Orleans celebrates the best of Cajun culture

A Fiesta favorite, the festival has become one of the most popular events on the 11-day party with a purpose calendar.

SAN ANTONIO — The 37th Annual "A Taste of New Orleans" celebrates the best of Cajun culture right here in the Alamo City.

A Fiesta favorite, the festival has become one of the most popular events on the 11-day party with a purpose calendar. It takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Sunken Garden Theater in Brackenridge Park at 3875 N. St. Mary's St.

One of the main attractions of the festival is, of course, the food. "The Taste” menu includes assorted gumbos, red beans and rice, shrimp creole, etouffee, shrimp kabob, jambalaya, cajun catfish, soft shell crab, crab au gratin, crab rolls, fresh crawfish boil, boudin, alligator, beignets and other treats.

The event is also family-friendly with kids rides, play areas, clowns and face painting.

Like all Fiesta events, Taste of New Orleans benefits a good cause. All proceeds made from the event go toward college scholarships for graduating high school seniors. Some of the mone also goes to a fund that assists those in most need in the San Antonio community.

It is produced by the SAZA Commission, Inc., the financial support arm of the San Antonio Zulu Association.

Fiesta runs April 18-April 28. The KENS 5 Fiesta Guide has all the information you need to get up to speed. Check it out here.
