Meet the creator behind these vibrant, outrageous Fiesta hats that speak for themselves

Each hat can take anywhere between two to three days to make. The labor of love is evident.

SAN ANTONIO — Why fit in when you can stand out during Fiesta?

Helping attendees of San Antonio's biggest "party with a purpose" to do just that is Alamo City native Patty Garcia Duarte, the owner of Patty's Creations. Her primary products: vibrant, outrageous Fiesta sombreros that speak for themselves.

She isn't shy about wearing her artwork.

“You want to stand out in San Antonio," Duarte said. "That’s the whole thing about wearing Fiesta hats.”

Each hat can take anywhere between two to three days to make, and the labor of love is evident.

But how Duarte comes up with concepts and inspiration for the sombreros may surprise you.

“New York, Paris, Ukraine," Duarte said, ticking off the places where she's received inspiration. "There’s a lot of great people who (wear) different hats and headdresses."

After years of keeping this hobby under wraps, Patty’s Creations were unboxed at Mission San Jose.

“This was the perfect backdrop for mem," she said. "This is where I feel connected to the City of San Antonio.”

Duarte says they're the perfect accessory to help anyone shine brighter this Fiesta.

Her hats range from $60 to $75. The best way to contact Duarte is by direct messaging her on Instagram.
