Strong cold front bringing 30-degree drop to San Antonio this week

Take a jacket before heading out the door Wednesday; the front will arrive for your morning commute.

SAN ANTONIO — After days of summer-like conditions, San Antonians will experience a huge drop in temperatures over the next 48 hours, starting Tuesday afternoon.

The next cold front arrives to the Alamo City Wednesday, when morning temperatures will be warmest before dropping down to the 50s by the end of the day.

This cold front will also bring high winds of over 40 mph, pushing in drier air. The cold weather pattern will be short-lived, and unfortunately bring little chance of rain to our area.

Here's what San Antonians can expect:

Wednesday: Take a jacket before heading out the door; the front will arrive by the morning commute.

Expect a very windy day as the cold front is expected to pass through San Antonio around 8 a.m., bringing wind speeds topping out at about 43 mph to the area. Although temperatures will only be in the 70s around 8 a.m., northerly winds will make it feel much cooler and temperatures will drop throughout the day.

By Wednesday afternoon, temperatures will drop into the mid-60s and mid-50s by the evening commute around 6 p.m. The day starts windy and ends chilly.

Thursday : Luckily the winds will die down overnight, but on Thursday morning bigger jackers will be needed. The mercury is expected to be at around 45 degrees at 8 a.m., with afternoon high temperatures in the mid-50s expected. This will be the coldest day of the week, so keep the jacket nearby all day.  Skies will also stay cloudy throughout the day. In other words: caldo weather for Thursday!

Friday: This will be the last day of winter-like weather, as cold temperatures in the 40s will only be felt in the morning hours. By Friday afternoon, temperatures will rise to more seasonal conditions of around 76 degrees. This will be a day to dress in layers as Friday starts very cold but turns more spring-like by the afternoon. The sun will also return by the afternoon helping to warm-up temperatures.

After Friday, San Antonians can put the jackets away for the rest of the week as temperatures warm into the 80s by Saturday and upper-70s for Sunday and Monday.
