San Antonio begins preparations for 2025 NCAA Men's Final Four

Ten months out, Final Four preparations are already full speed ahead in the Alamo City.

SAN ANTONIO — The 2025 NCAA Men's Final Four basketball tournament may still be ten months away, but that doesn't mean that preparations aren't already full speed ahead.

"It kind of feels like a bit of the firehose has been turned on," said San Antonio Executive Director Elena Wells.

The baton was passed from the Phoenix committee to the Alamo City group after the UConn Huskies won the national championship earlier this spring.

"The NCAA and the fans love San Antonio," Wells said. "Our walkable city with the River Walk, with everything to do within one-half mile of the Alamodome, makes for a great experience."

That love for San Antonio is why the work, still nearly one year out, is already well underway.

"The NCAA will start coming to San Antonio in June and we'll start monthly meetings with them and all their partners to build out the event footprint and layout" Wells said. "We'll identify the key events and locations."

The local organizing committee will recruit 2,500 volunteers as the city prepares to host men's college hoops biggest event for the fifth time.

"That's another thing that the NCAA loves about us is that our team has been in place for a long time," said Wells. "Our city and our partners work really well together and we have lots of institutional knowledge that we bring to the table to make sure things are smooth and safe."

San Antonio has been one of the three most popular host sites in the last twenty years or so, and there's no reason that'll change anytime soon.

"I'm maybe a little biased, but I've been to a lot and it is such a great experience. It's not just for the fans that are traveling in, it's for the locals as well," said Wells.
