After trailing for nearly the entire game, Texas took its first lead with nearly five minutes to go on Sam Ehlinger's third touchdown pass of the day. On the final drive, however, Iowa State hit a game-winning field goal as time expired. Texas would have had nearly two minutes to respond to a field goal attempt earlier in the drive, but the Longhorns were called offsides and allowed the Cyclones to drain the remaining two minutes before hitting the 36-yard game-winner.
The loss marks Texas' fourth of the season and third conference loss, essentially squandering any chance the team had of making the Big 12 Championship game.
Texas will play Baylor on the road next week.

IOWA STATE (Own 18):
Brock Purdy connected with Deshaunte Jones for 15 yards. Purdy threw a pass down the left sideline to La'Michael Pettway and Texas was called for pass interference. The referees went to the booth to review if the pass was caught. The ruling was the pass was caught, so Iowa State declined the pass interference penalty and took the yardage of the catch. Purdy threw a pass to his tight end and drew another pass interference call, which was accepted this time and placed the ball at the Texas 30-yard line. Breece Hall ran up the middle for one yard and Texas used its second timeout of the second half with 2:22 remaining in regulation. Purdy completed a pass on a shallow cross to his tight end for five yards. Texas used its final timeout of the second half with 2:16 left. On third and four, Purdy threw an out route into one-on-one coverage, which was broken up by the Texas defense. On the field goal attempt, Texas was called for offsides and gave Iowa State a fresh set of downs. Hall ran up the middle for one yard. Hall ran up the middle again for two yards. On third and seven, Purdy ran across the field to line up the game winning field goal. Iowa State let the clock run down to four seconds and called timeout. Connor Assalley hit the 36-yard game-winning field goal. Iowa State wins, 23-21.

Analysis:
Iowa State dominated the majority of the first half. Texas was forced to punt on six of its seven first half drives. On the final drive of the first half, Sam Ehlinger marched the offense down the field to score the Longhorns' only points. Ehlinger was 4-5 passing for 75 yards and a touchdown on the drive. Before that, he was 4-7 passing for 26 yards. Iowa State's Breece Hall controlled most of the first half on the ground for the Cyclones, rushing for 79 yards on 14 carries.

After fending off then ranked No. 16 Kansas State at home, 27-24, Texas will made the brisk trek up to Ames, Iowa, to take on the Iowa State Cyclones.
Iowa State enters the matchup after nearly completing a fourth quarter comeback on the road against the Oklahoma Sooners. The Cyclones were down 42-21 going into the fourth quarter, but scored 20 unanswered points to bring the score to 42-41 with 24 seconds left. In an attempt to knock off the Sooners on the road, Iowa State went for the two-point conversion and the win, but failed.
Texas is a seven-point underdog and ESPN Football Power Index says Iowa State has a 71.3% chance of winning the game.
