Spurs' Tre Jones named a finalist for NBA Sportsmanship Award

The award recognizes the player who best represents the ideals of sportsmanship on the court.

SAN ANTONIO — The NBA announced that San Antonio Spurs point guard Tre Jones has been named a finalist for the 2023-24 NBA Sportsmanship Award.

According to the NBA, the annual honor recognizes the player who best represents the ideals of sportsmanship on the court.

Current NBA players will select the winner from these six finalists (one finalist from each NBA division), which includes Jones, Tyrese Maxey, Jarrett Allen, Kevin Love, Harrison Barnes, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Jones has been a steady force on the court for the Spurs throughout the season.

Especially with his leadership role, which has made him an extension of head coach Gregg Popovich.

“I know that my main role on this team is to be a leader for us on the court. Be an extension of coach on the court at all times. Continue to try to get everybody set in their spots," he said.

From his playmaking to his ability to facilitate, Jones is a key member of the Spurs in the toughest position to play, and he does it with professionalism and a team-first mentality.

Past Spurs to win the award include David Robinson, Steven Smith, and Avery Johnson.
