Lakers 123, Spurs 118: What the teams said after the game

Spurs could not pick up the road win versus the Lakers.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs picked up a road loss against the Lakers, 123-118. The Spurs are now 1-6 on the Rodeo Road Trip.

Victor Wembanyama finished with 27 points, five steals, five blocks, and 11 rebounds. Jeremy Sochan had 15 points and 13 rebounds. Keldon Johnson added 14 points off the bench. Devin Vassell recorded 10 points in the loss. Tre Jones added eight points and four assists.

The Spurs are 11-46 on the season and will next visit the Utah Jazz on Sunday night.

Here's a sample of what the teams said after the game.

SPURS

Coach Gregg Popovich:

"He's (Wembanyama) a wonderful guy to coach who loves to be coached. He can handle criticism and we're working with all the fundamental, basic things. Footwork, pivoting, balance, all the things that a young player needs, and he's jumped right in. Obviously, he's better every month. In a lot of those ways in his aggressiveness, you could see it tonight. He got to the free throw line because he took the ball to the rim, to his defender. Instead of fading away or avoiding contact, he sought it out and when he does that, you can see that he's really understanding how to play the game."

Wembanyama:

"I'm eager to play more. To have those minutes to help the team because sometimes I feel like I'm on the bench for a long time. But it's a job we got to do with the team medical staff. My stamina is good as the minutes I'm going to play."
