SAN ANTONIO — The Boerne Greyhounds' third straight trip to the state tournament stopped just short of the biggest stage when they lost to the Canyon Eagles, 53-39, at the Alamodome on Friday afternoon.

It was just the second time Boerne gave up 50 points to an opponent this season. The Greyhounds finished their 2023-24 campaign with a 34-5 mark after never leading in the Conference 4A Semifinal, which was played in front of 3,022 fans.

Boerne struggled to find the net – they shot 32.6% from the floor compared to Canyon's 48.5% mark – and couldn't recover from a 26-17 halftime deficit. The team's 39 points amounted to its third-lowest scoring output of the season.

Averi Aaron anchored Boerne's scoring effort with 13 points while Canyon's Jaylee Moss led all players with 26 points. The Eagles will go on to face Waco La Vega Saturday evening for the 4A title.
