SAN ANTONIO — Two young women in their 20s were hit by a possible drunk driver while walking along a sidewalk on the St. Mary's strip early Sunday morning, police say.

San Antonio Police responded to the 2600 block N. St. Marys Street around 2:24 a.m. for reports of a vehicle hitting two people.

According to officers, a black 2009 Chevy Tahoe drove onto the sidewalk and hit the women, seriously injuring both of them. The victims, ages 20 and 22, were taken to the hospital.

Witnesses say the driver of the Chevy fled the scene and then hit a parked vehicle across the street. The driver then fled from that second crash and went down to the 100 block of Valdez Place and crashed into a fence.

The driver of the Chevy drove off from the third crash and then abandoned their vehicle between Valdez Place and E. French Place.

Police believe alcohol to have been a factor, as multiple open cases of cold beer were observed in the Chevy.

When the driver is found, they will be charged with two counts of collision involving injury and failing to stop and give info over $200.

This is a developing story.
