San Antonio to host Congressional Medal of Honor Society Celebration and Convention

Military City USA will host the celebration in late September for honorees and their families.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio will host some of our nation's greatest heroes this fall.

The Congressional Medal of Honor Society will be holding its conference and celebration here.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg, civic leaders and two Medal of Honor recipients gathered at Hangar 9 at Brooks City Base on Friday.

It was announced that Military City USA will host the celebration in late September for honorees and their families, providing unique opportunities for the public to engage with Recipients and be inspired by acts of military valor.

"It is the highest award you can receive for valor against an enemy soldier and you do have to risk your life to be eligible to receive it. Any Medal of Honor recipient will tell you this. This particular honor does not belong to me. it belongs to the 89 men who fought the battle," said a retired Army Specialist Fifth Class and Medal of Honor winner.

An estimated 45 of the living 66 Medal of Honor recipients and their families are expected to attend the 2024 celebration to be held Sept. 29 to Oct. 5.

They will visit our military hospitals and schools to share their patriotism, dedication, and sacrifice to our nation.
