Local organizations fill the stomachs and the hearts of the less fortunate for Easter Sunday

Two local organizations joined together this Easter to show just how contagious giving back can be.

SAN ANTONIO — Easter Sunday is a day usually spent surrounded by family, love, and plenty of food!

Others, however, don't get the opportunity to experience the love and joy the Easter holiday can bring.

This Easter, two organizations came together to make sure those less fortunate felt loved by providing them a warm meal.

Karen Allen-Mirabeau, president of The Rotary Club San Antonio Pearl, says when she became President giving back was part of her passion.

“If I have the resources, I’m going to try to find something, because I can’t stand this happening for someone to be hungry,”  said Allen-Mirabeau.

Allen-Mirabeau spent her Easter doing just that, providing a warm meal to those in need.

“A hot meal on our Easter Sunday, that's what giving back is all about, and that's what we're about,” she said.

Her organization paired with Under The Bridge Inc., who for the past 35 years has been feeding the needy every Sunday.

Volunteer Chairman at Under The Bridge Inc., Bill Holler, shares Karen Allen-Mirabeau's passion for giving.

“We’re their family. We feed them, take care of them if they need it. Again, we’ve been here so long, I’d miss it if I’m not here,” said Holler.

For the 150 people who received warm meals, Mirabeau and her team say they warmed more than just their stomachs.

“As you can see this touched their heart,” Allen-Mirabeau said.

Filling their hearts with a little love this Easter Sunday.

“I want to thank all of y'all for what y'all have done,” said Allen-Mirabeau.

For Mirabeau, she says helping each other is the part of the community that draws her to want to make a difference. She hopes her actions will spark others to also make a difference.

“It just takes one. And as we always say, service before self. We’re people of action,” she said.

If this has sparked you to want to help your community, you can volunteer or donate to Under The Bridge Inc. and The Rotary Club of San Antonio Pearl on their websites.
