SAN ANTONIO — Another first for San Antonio College, which opened a new training facility for the death-care industry.
The college is the first in the country to open a customer-facing mortuary on a college campus. College leaders said the mortuary will extend and improve its mortuary science program by offering students the opportunity to work in a funeral home with real, paying customers.
The new center will be located at the corner of West Ashby Place and Lewis Street, just north of downtown. It is the latest edition to the mortuary program, which started at SAC in 1961.
Students interested in the death-care industry can learn embalming or funeral directing and give their education real-world applications.
