SAFD: One apartment building deemed total loss after massive northwest-side fire

Multiple fire crews responded to the scene Friday night.

SAN ANTONIO — Multiple San Antonio Fire crews worked to fight back against raging flames at an apartment complex on the city's northwest side Friday night.

It isn't known yet how the fire started, but officials at last check said they didn't receive any reports of injuries in the blaze. Firefighters were still on the scene hours after the fire broke out around 9 p.m.

According to SAFD, the fire destroyed one building of the Altitude Apartments, near Fredericksburg and Callaghan, with officials deeming the building a total loss. Huge flames could be seen from nearby, and immense chutes of water were being used to try and suppress the flames.

One resident that KENS 5 spoke to said there was little warning before the blaze; only a loud "pop" that served as a precursor to the flames.

The day had started with another huge fire in central San Antonio, just south of downtown on South Flores Street. More than 30 responded to that blaze, which charred a building housing multiple businesses. No one was hurt in that incident.
