Mother charged with injury to a child in death of 1-month-old baby

Samantha Elizabeth Baker, 21, is charged with injury to a child causing serious bodily injury.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman was arrested and faces charges in connection with the death of a one-month-old baby.

Samantha Elizabeth Baker, 21, is charged with injury to a child causing serious bodily injury.

According to an arrest affidavit, Baker reported the baby, Fletcher Sterling, was found unresponsive and pale in his bassinet on Saturday. The baby was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Medical Examiner ruled that the baby sustained a skull fracture and died of blunt force trauma.

Later, while being questioned by police, the arrest documents say Baker admitted to hitting the baby "hard" three times. She reportedly told police she was frustrated with his crying and took out her frustration on the baby.

This is a developing story and further details will be added as they are received.
