Man fatally shot in Atascosa County; suspects arrested and charged with murder

Both suspects were taken in for questioning where they reportedly confessed to the murder.

ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas — Two people have been charged with murder after a man was shot dead in Atascosa County this week.

The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Lucio Carmona.

The shooting happened just after 7 p.m. on Tuesday on Tessman, north of Haverlah Road.

In a press conference on Friday, the sheriff's office said that the two suspects, identified as 25-year-old David Castleberry and 21-year-old Clarissa Guillen were in a stolen vehicle in San Antonio days after the murder. They each had warrants out for their arrests for other crimes.

Authorities with the Atascosa County Sheriff's Office had set up surveillance on Old Highway 90 West after finding the victim was known to be with the suspects on Tuesday afternoon. The suspects were found in a motel off the highway.

Both suspects were taken in for questioning where they reportedly confessed to the murder. It's believed that Castleberry is the person who shot Carmona, but both are charged with murder. The sheriff's office said it could be upgraded to capital murder. They also said it began as a robbery, trying to take the victim's money.

Carmona's body was left on the road. He is from San Antonio, as are the suspects. So, deputies are working to find out what led them to Pleasanton.

The bond for their release is set at $800,000.
