Man dead after driving around police in construction zone, crashing into crane

The accident was so bad that the victim's roof was torn off from his truck, according to police.

SAN ANTONIO — A man is dead after he drove around police blocking traffic for construction and crashed into a crane on the northwest side of the city overnight.

San Antonio Police responded to Loop 1604 at I-10 around 1:45 a.m. for reports of a victim pinned inside their vehicle following a crash.

This area is well known for the ongoing construction and police say the man drove right into the construction zone.

According to a police sergeant, the man was in a pickup truck when he drove around an off-duty officer who was blocking traffic for the construction.

The driver went straight into the construction area where he tragically struck a crane, killing him. The accident was so bad it tore the roof off his vehicle, police say

San antonio police, fire, and EMS all responded to the scene, where the man was pronounced dead.

Traffic investigation detail officers were also called in to investigate the crash.
