Aggravated robbery suspect shot dead by SAPD after he drew weapon on them, Chief McManus says

Officials say the two officers approached the man in an east-side neighborhood before firing upon him. He died after being taken to a hospital.

SAN ANTONIO — Two San Antonio police officers shot and killed a man wanted for aggravated robbery when he drew a weapon on them in an east-side neighborhood, officials say.

According to SAPD Chief William McManus, the two officers – one with 16 years on the force, the other with 13 – were approaching 35-year-old Raymond Mireles in the area of Loop 410 and Rigsby on Monday evening when he pulled the gun and pointed it at them. They responded by firing an unknown number of shots, fatally hitting him.

McManus emphasized information could change as police continue to investigate. It's unclear what incidents the man was originally wanted for at this time.

Both officers have been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation, per SAPD policy.

A neighbor told KENS 5 she heard the gunshots, saying police were on scene within moments.

"By the time I came out there was at least 10 police cars or more already blocking the street, in seconds," she said.

This marks the seventh shooting involving San Antonio police in 2024 so far, and the third deadly one.
