Hit and run driver causes five-car pile-up on SPID overpass near Staples and Everhart

The left and center lanes of the Everhart and SPID overpass were closed for about an hour Friday afternoon.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi police were called to the scene of a five-car pile-up on SPID near Staples and Everhart on Friday at 2:39 p.m.

Investigators later determined that the major traffic incident was caused by a hit-and-run driver who still remains unknown at this time.

The Corpus Christi Police Department said that the left and center lanes of the highway were shut down while police worked to clear the scene. Two people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The highway was opened back up by about 3:40 p.m.

CCPD said that if detectives are able to identify the driver who caused the incident, they will be cited with a 'failure to remain and report' ticket, which is a Class B misdemeanor.
