Shelby had slipped through a backyard gate at her family's home and got lost.

SAN ANTONIO — A beloved dog that was missing for ten years is now back home in the arms of her loving owner all thanks to a microchip.

Shelby had slipped through the backyard gate at her family's home back in 2014 and gotten lost. Her family searched frantically for her, then ultimately after not finding her, reported her stolen, according to City of San Antonio ACS.

The family said that they heard rumors that a neighbor claimed to have seen Shelby taken by a stranger.

Fast forward to last Wednesday when someone reported a stray pet by calling the city at 3-1-1.

City of San Antonio Animal Control Officer Dowell and Cadet Featherstone got there and scanned the dog for a microchip.

Imagine their surprise when not only did the dog have one, she had been reported missing ten years earlier.

"The family had lost hope of finding her and were surprised when they received the call," said City of SA ACS. "Within hours, they were reunited with their beloved Shelby."

Another happy reunion thanks to technology.

Does your pet have a microchip? The city provide FREE vaccinations and microchips every Saturday. Visit saacs.info/events for details.
