Authorities use Snapchat to find murder suspect, make arrest

Police said the social media app helped to link at least one suspect involved.

SAN ANTONIO — An arrest has been made in a deadly shooting of 27-year-old Marcel Greenwood in his north-side apartment back in March.

New documents revealed that the social media app Snapchat helped San Antonio Police link them to at least one suspect involved.

Luz Rodriguez Pizano was booked into the Bexar County Jail on Monday.

The 22-year-old woman is charged with capital murder in the death of Marcel Greenwood, however she claims she wasn’t involved.

According to an arrest affidavit, the suspect told police she was in the car on March 30 when two other men that she was with entered the victim’s apartment and shot him without her knowing.

After Greenwood’s death, investigators found his phone which had been used to contact Pizano.

Documents say the two used Snapchat to discuss plans to meet up and exchange money for weed using Cashapp. Investigators said $1,000 was sent to the suspect's account.

Detectives later found the contact belonged to Pizano and also linked her to a robbery from earlier in the day.

In that case, she also used the same Snapchat and Cashapp accounts to allegedly lure another victim in.

The affidavit says when police contacted her, she claimed her phone had been stolen and denied her involvement.

Still, investigators had enough evidence to build their case against her and make the arrest.

Police say there could be more suspects in this case.

Greenwood's parents, Keiron and Dorothy Greenwood said he an independent and caring son.

“He was about to be a supervisor at his job he had just started but he was always responsible," Keiron Greenwood said.

They said they were relieved an arrest has been made. They called the shooting senseless.

“They went in and shot him multiple times then they stole his stuff while he was laying there," Dorothy Greenwood said. "Some meaningless items, not even of great value, you know it doesn’t even make any sense?”

They were told by police more arrests could be made soon.

“The wicked will be punished," Keiron Greenwood said.

For now, Pizano remains in jail on a $600,000 dollar bond, according to court records.
