SAN ANTONIO — A man is in custody following an investigation into allegations of abuse to a disabled student by an instructional assistant at Northside Independent School District.
According to an arrest affidavit, an investigation into Jacob Hallam, a 20-year-old instructional assistant for Northside ISD, began after the parents of a female student reported concerns of abuse to campus officials
Upon review of classroom archived video, Hallam could be seen physically abusing the student on multiple occasions, arrest records say.
The documents provide graphic details of abuse inflicted upon the victim. In one instance, Hallam is allegedly observed shaking the student's head, shoving her into a wall and throat-punching her. In another instance, arrest records say, Hallam is seen grabbing the student's face as she eats her lunch and forcing her to swallow her food.
Hallam now faces multiple felony charges of injury to a child. He is jailed in Bexar County with bonds totaling $60,000.
NISD spokesperson Barry Perez said Hallam was hired in August of 2023 but resigned in March amid the investigation.
