Teens shot by gunman connected to assault on east-side residents, SAPD says

Five teens shot at Monday night while SAPD said they were playing with "toy guns" connected to assault on the east side.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police said two young men in their late teens were shot by an unknown suspect as they played with toy guns near downtown on Monday night.

A vehicle with five teens were in the area of East Commerce and North Swiss Street, playing with what is known as an "Orbeez" gun. The toy shoots plastic pellets filled with water.

Now residents on the east side said they were harassed by these teens prior to them being shot.

SAPD said there was a report made for someone shooting "Orbeez" at a resident. Though SAPD says the two incidents are being investigated separately, they tell KENS 5 that it's the same group of teens believed to be involved in both.

As the investigation continues, the teens could face assault charges.

“It just happened so fast…we didn’t have time to react," the resident, who wants to remain anonymous, said.

Around 7:00 p.m. Monday, this resident said a black car drove by their home. Reaching out of a window, one person shot what she called "rock-like" pellets at her and her family, hitting her daughter at least twice.

“If it was a real gun she would’ve been dead,” she said.

The resident said she and others feel terrorized in their own neighborhood and are fearful of going out in their own front yards now.

Ring camera footage caught the moments the car drove by, showing the pellets hitting family members as they try to duck away.

This resident said all they want is for people to take responsibility.

"No child should have to face something like this but as adults we should show them how to act,” she said.

This is an ongoing investigation.
