SAN ANTONIO — An assistant principal at Steele High School is in custody after police say they found marijuana and a pipe in his vehicle Wednesday.
According to the Cibolo Police Department, authorities heard from school administrators that 45-year-old Joshua Peters was "possibly in possession of marijuana." Peters allowed police to search his vehicle, at which point they found a substance later confirmed to be marijuana.
Peters was arrested and faces charges of marijuana possession in a drug-free zone and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Guadalupe County Jail.
"The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District is fully cooperating with the investigation and remains a vital partner in the safety of our students and community," CPD said in a release.
Steele officials confirmed the arrest in a statement, saying he's no longer employed with the district.
"This news is deeply troubling, and we are taking this matter very seriously," Principal Jane Cervantes said in a letter to families. "While the Cibolo Police department is leading the investigation, I want to reassure you that we are taking the appropriate steps here at Steele High School to address the situation and ensure the continued smooth operation of our campus."
