Daughters of San Antonio woman killed on the city's south side left with more questions than answers

"It's hard, you know, we always pictured having my mom in our life," said Beyonce Ortiz.

SAN ANTONIO — On Tuesday Jan. 16, San Antonio police say they found the lifeless body of 48-year-old, Lisa Lopez Ortiz in a south-side home.

Police say they went to the home in the 5900 block of South Flores to do a welfare check on Ortiz, after someone told them Ortiz had been killed by her boyfriend, 46-year-old John Garcia.

When police arrived at the home, they said Garcia showed up and starting shooting at police, they fired back killing him.

Ortiz is described by her daughters as someone kind, loving, giving and outspoken. She was a die hard Cowboys fan, married in a Cowboys jersey and was part of a tailgaters group that would travel to Dallas for games.

"Basically the life of the party is how I would describe her," said Beyonce Ortiz, Lisa Lopez Ortiz's Daughter.

Ortiz's daughters said they didn't know Garcia, and didn't know their mom had recently moved in with him, or what led up to the shooting.

The girls say they found about their mother's death through text messages from her former roommate, but though the messages were fake. It wasn't until they read news reports the next day, that they realized the messages were true.

"It's just very sudden, very unexpected.  It just hurts, because we wanted more time," said Desiree Martinez, Lisa Lopez Ortiz's Daughter

Ortiz's daughters are still trying to process what happened, and why?

"I'm at the point in grief, where I'm just angry. I'm at the stage, I'm just mad at everything, mad at him, mad at the world, mad at everything," said Beyonce Ortiz.

Ortiz's daughters said their mother's condition was so bad from the gun shot wounds, they might not be able to have a viewing. The family has started a GoFundMe to help with burial cost.  If you can help you can click here.
