Where you can eat out in San Antonio on Thanksgiving Day

SAN ANTONIO -- Thanksgiving is the Super Bowl of cooking. It’s the most anticipated meal of the year, but we wanted to give you some options if you don’t feel like cooking.

Ovens are working around the clock to roast the 90 turkeys that have been pre-ordered at Earl Abel's. On top of that, an additional 1,000 people will be coming through the front door on Thanksgiving Day to have dinner at the restaurant.

“Everybody gets an appetizer with their entree, dinner rolls, and of course with the roast turkey and dressing you're going to get a vegetable, cranberry sauce, giblet gravy,” owner Roger Arias said.

For about 80 years, Earl Abel’s has been serving up a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, and they have one very special ingredient.

“The same cooks that served thanksgiving at Earl Abel’s on Broadway and Hildebrand for 45 years are still cooking back there,” Arias said.

While Earl Abel's preps its famous turkey in expert hands, the star of the meal will be left out at another restaurant. Green at the Pearl is a vegetarian restaurant so there won't be any meat in their meals. On Thanksgiving, it will be offering a vegan version of the dinner.

That means no meat and no food items that come from animals, like cheese or eggs.

“We have vegan turkey, vegan ham, mashed potatoes, we have green beans casserole, pumpkin and pecan pie,” manager Amanda Ochoa said.
